I got so busy getting ready for C6 and the trip across country, and I've been alternating between busy or just mentally preoccupied with other stuff since then. (It was a surprisingly busy last couple of months.)

February is looking like it's going to be an interesting month. Not much currently going on event wise, but I've got minion meeting stuff for ECCC, plus potential jury duty on top of having to try to help several other people with costumes before ECCC.

ECCC is at the beginning of March, so I'm working on getting the remake of my modern era Mandalorian Beastmaster finished and official before then. (Set myself the goal of getting some trading cards made with it if I do.) I'm honestly not sure if I'll cart any other costumes over; I'm thinking about maybe wearing the Sith Scout, but it's going to depend on how my weight loss goes I think.

After ECCC I've got until D*Con to hopefully finish up a custom fantasy barbarian and my original series Trek uniform. Otherwise I'll just be there in mando gear again.

Anyway, WIP stuffs.

Beastmaster
I started upgrading the original kit a couple of months ago. I love the early crusader version I made, but really I think I dig the modern era one more. Because of my limited budget, I'm trying to make due with using as much as I can out of what I already have. (So far all I've had to buy was some more black paint for the horns and visor trim again as my last bottle is running low.) The chest, shoulder, and knee armor will all be the armor from my Femmeprotector kit. So the helmet is getting repainted with the green that I used on the protector (plus some of the gold/yellow on the cheeks), and I'll be repainting the gauntlets to the gold/yellow of the shoulders and knees. The helmet was a little beat up after being stored for so long (plus I had rushed it), so I first spent a little bit of time filling in old problem areas and doing a better job hiding the dent.

Currently I've got the base metal paint down; I need to get another can of the proper green spray paint and figure out where my weathering toothpaste went. Then I'll start the weathering and final painting process. (Not really looking forward to the reapplications of weathering I'm going to have to do after masking off areas to paint the yellow down then having to paint the black on after that.)

After it's fully painted and weathered I'll be sorting out how I'm going to do the back skirt like the last helmet had. (Visor will be smoked this time around since I don't have any more mirrored tinting.)

Sith Armor
This isn't one I'm necessarily trying to get done this year, as I've got no idea how long the fabric work for it is going to take. (We're talking complete pattern creation at this rate, and Pere has got a lot of other projects I'd rather he worked on.) But, I've been putzing around with the armor pieces just to get them out of my workspace.

The intended color scheme for it has changed from the original design since I decided to just work with paints I have. Right now it looks like the armor and mask will be bronze with ruby (rather than gold with maroon), and I'll probably be leaving the purple paint off and just working the purple into the fabric part. Currently the mask is curing a bit more before I spray down the ruby, then it will just be a matter of installing the strapping to hold it on and the lenses for the eyes. The shoulder armor might need one more pass with the bronze; we'll see tomorrow when I inspect it.

Going to start looking at Joanns for gem options to stick on the shoulders. My sith is fancy. :D

I didn't have as much progress (I think) between the last one and this because 1) it's the holidays which = delicious holiday food and 2) with my brother up for Christmas - New Years I didn't really have time to get in and work out. I tried as best I could to supplement that by walking plenty as we were busy most days my brother was visiting.

I'm putting a "?" next to the new ab measurement since we weren't actually sure if we were measuring it at the right point, so I think it'll be simpler if I just omit that one this time around.

Fingers crossed I can really bust my butt this month and do good on the 30 day challenge. I'm going to try to supplement workouts at Curves with walking as much as I can (especially since I may be disappearing for a bit to help my brother temporarily move his stuff across country).
First I came down with a cold, then my brother stayed to visit for longer than he had originally planned so I only got to work out twice in those two weeks (I hope that some of my walking at least partially made up for that). Then I admit there were a couple of times where I just got busy and forgot, once when I showed up too late because I forgot they close an hour earlier on Friday, and then the time I missed because my cat can be a shit head and attacked my arm, leaving some bruises and puncture wounds that I didn't want to aggravate. So, yeah. :/

On the plus side, I finally hit my goal of 400 calories burned in a workout. So there's that at least. ^_^
It's actually been typed up since the event, but for some reason I only saved it as a draft and never published it until now. >_< My bad guys.)

Star Wars Reads Day was an event by DK Publishing and LFL held nationwide at libraries and bookstores on October 6, 2012. I signed Terentatek Clan up for the one at the Silverdale Barnes and Noble since we've been trying to get more members on this side of the water.

Myself, Uloadus, K'raysh, Trengence, and Pere all made it out there. K'raysh was going to be in kit, but unfortunately his visor broke the night before while he was trying to install it into his new helmet so he ended up just being a spotter.

We had a lot of fun at the event. One of the B&N booksellers was dressed up as Princess Leia, and she did the story time as well as showing the kids how to make origami Yodas. We mostly wandered around the store (hanging out primarily near the kid's section, customer service, and the front) posing for pictures with people and answering questions about the club. After story time we posed for a group photo with Leia and the kids, then individual pictures and talking with people while the origami stuff was going on. (I fully admit I also went over to the coloring station and made a pretty pink and blue colored mando. <_< >_>)

Last thing for the day was a raffle for some posters and books. Leia held the box and read the winners aloud while I drew them. We hung around for a little while after the raffle to talk to some potential recruits (or at the very least people who found the costuming interesting lol) then dekitted and headed to the cafe to relax and chat for a bit. All in all, I really enjoyed this event and hope they do another one next year.
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned all this before (if not here then I KNOW I have on my Facebook), but long story short my parent's wrangled up enough money for me to get a membership. And I've been busting my ass since then trying to lose weight/get in better shape for a group cosplay. (I needn't explain it more than to point at the title of this blog post. lol)

In the spirit of oversharing (and making me feel like I'm actually keeping this thing up to date even when I'm not currently working on costumes), I figured I'd chart my progress each month here. The "months" will be decided by whenever Curves has me do the monthly measurements/weigh in, so updates won't be up until I get the print-out each month (which will be the visit after the measurements are done).

I admit I'm leaving weight off because honestly my weight makes me cringe, and I'd prefer to just post when it hits marks I'm happy with it hitting. Oh, and Calories Burned starts off on October 12 because my first couple of workouts weren't on the Curves Smart program ergo there's no data for them.
I'm waaaay far behind in updating. But, I'm trying at least! *chuckle* This will mostly be the post for C6 itself; I'll probably do another one about the trip in general since there was a lot of fun stuff during that.

I have to admit, I did find it kind of amusing that the first time I'd been back in my birth state in probably about 21ish years (we left when I was 2 or 3. . I'm not sure which) happened to be on my birthday. I'll also say, I honestly do not want to go back. :/ I mean, I will because I still need to visit Disneyworld and Universal and pretty much every other tourist destination there that I haven't been to. And Celebration 7 in all likelihood. But omg the humidity is terrible (and the driver's aren't much better). I'm not just complaining because my glasses would fog up stepping outside, or because it was like stepping into a shower, but also because it most likely killed my camera. After day 2 or so it was starting to focus weird and since we've gotten back it's developed bad lines across photos.

That first day we mostly spent getting our stuff organized in the
room and geeking out with our roommates. Second day was the start of the
convention, and I did my usual recon in civilian clothes to see how
things were laid out. (Plus I had Merc's booth duty.) It was kind of like a really weird scavenger hunt
since I kept stopping random mandos to ask where our booth was, each one
pointing in a direction where I'd end up stopping another and so on
until I finally figured out where the booth was. lol Even though it was
the first day and I was out of kit, I did bring my sexy new Night Owl
helmet from Skirata Arms since I wanted to show it off before Saturday
when I'd wear the entire kit. Ceric was awesome enough to have snagged
me some birthday hats on his way to the convention, so my helmet spent
the day on the Merc's table with it's swag on.

And I got to be all "pewpewpew!" in the speeder bike:

Spent the rest of the day wandering around looking at the legos and cars and Make a Wish Foundation helmets, and that night it was the Merc's Birthday Bash (5 years!). Love the swag we got (mugs, stickers, patches, bookmarks) and the food wasn't half bad. Though I'm pretty sure most of us ended up going out to the hotel convenience store to buy drinks 'cause $3 for a glass of soda that was almost all ice was not cool (neither was the $8 for a tiny martini glass of whatever they were mixing). Speeches were given, prizes and awards were handed out, and Jeremy Bulloch told Tom he was fired. lol Uloadus of Terentatek Clan (my guys ^_^) got the party started after all the presentation stuff by dragging people out on the dance floor. After the party ended quite a few of us invaded the pool and the hot tub; I can honestly say that's the first time I've been in a bathing suit since 8th grade. I felt awkward and have totally forgotten how to swim, but Miss Tori convinced me to go with her. I have to admit, I am very glad for friends who drag me to things sometimes.

Friday (ie, second day of con, third day in Orlando)

Started off the day by working at The Dark Empire's table even though I'd left my sith and sith recruitment scout at home. (Sadly with the weight I've gained I didn't want to wear either of them.) I did pull on my SRS sash at least, so I had that.

Even though my Early Crusader Beast Master mando wasn't approved (I had a moment of really stupid and forgot to make knee armor), I still pulled it on for a test troop on Friday. I have to say, it actually held up pretty well (I can't say the same about during the trip back. . .it's on my table with stuff to be repaired). I did some wandering up to the Droid Builder's room where I ran into a guy with a really awesome Endor Trooper costume. The only picture I got with him does not do his costume justice; the detail was fantastic. After that room Pere and I wandered back down to the main floor so I could get my picture with Roxy the Rancor, something that had pretty much been my goal since I saw the first posts about a life sized rancor being made for the con. (And really the biggest reason I did the test troop at all, otherwise I would have just left the costume at home.) I haven't got much more in the way of pictures that I took that day since Pere went off to some panels he wanted to see while I spent time wandering some more and posing for pictures for random con goers.

Saturday

For the record, I was up until probably about 5-6 am working on stuff to try to finish my purple kit. My purple stomach wraps weren't working so I ultimately just pulled on my beast master's red ones (they sort of work. . .well, at least enough that I don't know people would realize they were the wrong ones unless they knew I was making purple ones). The boot armor took the longest since I hadn't realized just how long it was going to take me to get the laces through the set up for the armor plus the lacing area itself. Long story short, I ended up missing the Merc's official member photo, but I got there in time to step in when they got everybody (official or not) into the shot, plus the females only photo. Most of this day was spent wandering around posing for pictures while I killed time until my 4 pm Honor Guard Duty at Jeremy Bulloch's table (of course I'm pretty sure I'm in a fair amount of people's photos of him and his table. . .lol). Pere was off at more panels so I've only got a couple of pics of my kit since I had to hand the camera off to others. I did find out I can kneel in this kit, it just popped one of the straps on my shin armor (which is honestly ok. . I was going to redo all the straps on the boot/shin armor anyway). All I needed was for my kit to last until after my guard duty, and it did. Now it's kind of tucked away where I can fix it up.

Sunday (last day of con)

Pere had planned on having his Royal Guard to wear at C6. He'd ordered a new helmet off ebay (his old one is a Don Post that he's fixing), but it got here too late for him to do all the correction work and painting on it before we left. So he tried to get the painting done while we were stopped in TN on our way down at my parent's house. That probably would have worked except the paint was still too tacky to put it in the car, so he left it for my mom to overnight down to us at the hotel with the thought that the paint would be fine. Unfortunately (either due to the thickness of the paint or to the humidity in TN), the paint wasn't cured enough, and when he opened it at the hotel the paint was too badly damaged to be usable. Thankfully Rubies had their new Royal Guard helmet for sale at their booth, and thankfully it's actually a pretty damn good helmet. I'm not so happy about the price. . . .but he really wanted his costume for his photo op with Ian McDiarmid. So he got that, and I ended up buying one of the crappy Anakin gloves and cutting the straps off so he'd have at least a glove to use. His actual glove didn't get sewn in time because the hotel carpet ate my sewing needle. -_- He got his photo and autograph though, plus he kept getting stopped for pictures as we were walking around.

While he was waiting in line to get his photo taken with McDiarmid, I wandered off and got Jeremy's autograph since I figured given this is the third time I've met him I should probably actually get it for once. Got both a picture autographed and one of the old convention exclusive Boba toys that Pere gave me autographed. After Pere got his stuff we just wandered among the booths (with mostly Pere buying stuff and me unsuccessfully looking for a nexxu toy) until convention close (which was waay too early in the day if you ask me).

I haven't updated in ages. I spent a good chunk of time running around like a chicken with it's head off before Celebration 6 trying to finish up multiple costumes, then I was at C6 and stayed out there through D*Con.

D*Con was a bit of a last minute plan. I found out Richard Dean Anderson was going to be there, and Pere was awesome enough to get me a ticket for his autograph as a birthday present. We had been planning on heading down there on that Monday to get our badges for next year anyway. So it became a "head there on Sunday and get badges then plus hang out" plan instead.

I'll have pics and report stuff up for Celebration soonish (in theory). I've been pretty busy once we got back, too. (We drove out there and back; so I was without internet for a good chunk of time.) Had an event on Friday not too long after we got back, and I spent the weekend trying to get some of my stuff put away again. (The garage is still a mess.)

Right now though I'm going to take some pain meds for my head (stupid con crud has me coughing so much my head has started pounding) and make some soup.

And yell at my cat to stop chewing on the plastic bags. -_-Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-49662698309172399202012-04-04T23:41:00.000-07:002012-04-04T23:41:04.986-07:00Event Report: Emerald City Comic Con 2012Whew. Hectic last couple of days, but I'm finally able to take a little bit of time to get this written up.

So. ECCC 2012. It was awesome. Peregrinus and I were both Minions (the convention volunteers) and worked several hour shifts each day. Long story short, I ended up not bringing any of my own costumes since I didn't want to have to haul them over to the hotel then back over to the ferry only to get to wear them for a tiny amount of time. Probably for the best anyway since my feet were killing me just after day one from all the standing you do as a Minion.

Friday I only had a little bit of time after con open to hang out. Spent most of it hanging around in the skybridge since I needed to meet up with a Merc recruit so he could try on my commando helmet to see how the fit would be on him if he bought one. Minion shift was mostly spent working the door to the Exhibitor's Hall helping people if they had direction related questions. I'm pretty sure I did something for a little bit after that but can't really recall what. I had about 15 minutes after my shift ended to run through the vendors, and luckily I ran into a couple of Merc's recruits, one of which was able to direct me to the booth that had some Jango Pez dispensers still (I only ever had the Boba so I got Jango to go with my Mando toy collection). Pere and I spent some of that night after the con up at the Ltd. Art Gallery for their "Mint Condition" comic con art show (also, their mixed drinks were kinda awesome. . .fufu berry Jones soda with vodka ftw).

Saturday I spent about 30 minutes in Adam Baldwin's line to snag his autograph (this also meant I had to spend 30 minutes listening to the guy behind me explain his My Little Pony/Thundercats fan fiction to somebody else). But, hey, I've only been waiting to get his autograph since D*Con 2008. So, that completed my trifecta of Firefly/Serenity autographs that I absolutely had to have (got Fillion's and Tudyk's at D*Con '08). If I'd had the money I would have gotten Summer Glau's, but, alas, no monies for that. Pere and I hoped into Christopher Judge's line so I could get his autograph for my brother, and Pere gave him a box of Jaffa Cakes he found at Central (we were in the store and he picked them up and started laughing; I was pretty much like "you're bringing those to ECCC for Christopher Judge, aren't you?"). We spent the last little bit before our Minion shift started going through some of the dealer's and the artist's tables. Met up with one of the local artists we'd actually first met at D*Con '11 then stopped by the Girl Genius table so Jonah could inquire about getting the rest of their signatures on the newest Volume One omnibus, and I went ahead and snagged their adorable little steampunk heart pin. Because I've been wanting it since it came out. :D Minion shift I spent the first half of standing up at registration directing people, then I got to go work the line control for both one of the DC artist's booths then over at the Image booth for Kirkman's autographing session. I would like to take this time to strongly suggest if you don't want to have your fellow con-goers murder you, don't bring every single issue of a comic ever made plus all your friend's copies to have signed. He singed stuff fast, but I still had to listen to the other people in line start complaining every time somebody got up there with a ton of stuff.

Saturday night we had fun at dinner down in the Elephant & Castle with some of the 501st and a couple of the other TK Merc's clan members. The fish and chips there is awesome, btw. Since Thaxos was rooming with us, we also spent that night in the room making the rest listen to the podcast. XD

For the record, I'm pretty sure none of us got much in the way of sleep. We kept saying we should go to bed then always ended up staying awake until around 3 am talking. On the bright side, I have a potential romance novel title out of it all. "Between the calves of two men." I think it'd be a best seller. lmao

Anyway, with Sunday as the last day we ran over to check out the gaming section (I got my brother a nifty Drizzt print) then were back to work as Minions. I got a chance to work panel entry, which wasn't too bad actually. Though the artist for the first panel ended up canceling and it sort of turned into a Minion Q&A. XD After that I was put on line duty up in the voice actor's section. For the record, I pretty much felt like a horrible person because I was the line cap for a My Little Pony actress' line and had to turn away a crying little girl. :/ But other than that it wasn't too bad. Though I am still sad I missed Wil Wheaton since I got down to the celebrity room a little too late.

So, in parting, some of the few pictures I managed to take while running around like a chicken with its head cut off:

Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-49836276857829394322012-03-17T23:14:00.001-07:002012-03-17T23:18:29.410-07:00Food Time: Crab NachosThese are pretty tasty and cheap for those of us who sometimes get seafood cravings but can't afford a lot. ($2 a can for crab meat from Walmart if you buy their brand, so, yeah, just because it's seafood doesn't mean you need to spend a lot on it.)

Normally my family uses a Mexican cheese blend or a queso cheese on the nachos, but I opted to try Italian cheese blend on my latest ones. It also works really well.

Oven - 400

1 can crab meat
Sour cream (I like using Darigold's Mexican style sour cream)
Tortilla chips (I usually opt for a big bag of On of the Border chips since they last me for lots of meals)
1 bag shredded cheese (I suggest either a non-spicy Mexican blend, a simple queso, or an Italian blend)

- Arrange chips on baking trays; I highly recommend putting down parchment paper under the chips since it will help cut down clean up time. Trying to clean potentially burned cheese off the baking tray is not so fun.
- Put about half a spoonful of sour cream on each chip, spreading the dollop out a little.
- Place small amount of crab on top of the sour cream (how much is up to you, I usually put just enough to cover the sour cream but not much more)
- Sprinkle cheese over chips
- Bake for roughly 5 minutes. I tend to keep an eye on them and just remove them when the cheese is melted on the chips themselves.
I fully admit it's taken me a lot longer than I wanted to get my steampunk costumes finished (because I keep changing my mind lol), but I do fiddle around with small things here and there.

I've been wanting something else to hold my jewelry in rather than the book box that it's all been in, at least until I get my jewelry box from home. After keeping my eye out at Goodwill for options, I stumbled upon this box (for $1.25):

It's handy enough to keep what little jewelry I have in, but it was definitely not the colors I wanted lol. So I set about making it a bit more like something I'd want using what I had on hand. First step was painting a gloss black over the outside. It took a lot of coats, and the embossed parts were still kind of visible if you tilted it right. Next I sponged on a metallic ruby paint I had:

Then sponged the antique gold I had on over that (since I've got a ton of that stuff and have no need for it since I sold my slave leia):

The final steps involved gluing some old gears I had made up for other outfits on top, plus one of the little acrylic gems I had for my twi'lek's old headband. I got some flowers from the dollar store and cut the flower parts off to glue them on top since I felt it was a bit lacking with just the gears and gem. So, here are some final series of pictures:

I don't have any pictures of the inside, but I went more punk and less steam for that. lol Put down some Pactra racing pink then sponged some black on over that. But, it's a nice box for my stuff for now, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-19514152929577588312012-03-02T04:03:00.001-08:002012-03-02T04:04:03.833-08:00Food Time: (The Best) Chocolate Chip CookiesI do not feel any shame in calling these the best chocolate chip cookies I have ever had. Seriously, they are that good. Over the years I've tried a good many number of recipes trying to find one that was just right. According to the recipe book I got this recipe out of these are supposedly the Mrs. Field's recipe cookies. I can't vouch for that, nor can I even say if they actually taste like Mrs. Field's cookies. They are, however, awesome.

Oven: 350

1 cup softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 package Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Bittersweet Chips

- cream together the butter, sugars, egg and vanilla
- sift together flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder
- combine the wet and dry ingredients then mix in the chocolate chips
- spoon the dough onto a prepared baking sheet (I use one covered with parchment paper to cut down on the mess)
- bake for 9 minutes (yes, exactly 9 minutes even if they don't look cooked; as long as you didn't heap the dough too much they will be cooked)

These come out wonderfully crispy on the edges and deliciously soft in the middle.
(Although I was almost tempted to wait a couple of days before posting just so that way I wouldn't be doing a flood of posts all on one day. XD)

So, I finally had my interview for the D20 Girls and got my contract in. I am, however, rather scrambling to figure out what outfits to use since I had intended to have my cherry print halter dress made by now but had to put it off due to the usual issue, money. I've got plenty of everyday/casual wear, and I might be able to scrounge up something business and costume (I say might for costume only because I'm really not sure which costume I want to use) but I am at a complete loss for "eyecandy." And I really want an eyecandy outfit dammit. So I've been trying and trying to find something to use that is also within my budget but to no avail. I definitely want to get the pics done soon, even if my hair will by stupid for them since I'm not getting it cut again until closer to ECCC.

Which brings me to ECCC. I am pretty psyched about it since Adam Baldwin hasn't cancelled yet lol (anybody who has ever hoped to meet him at D*Con, like me, will get it). I just need his to finish my collection of the major 3 autographs I want from Firefly actors (already have Nathan's and Alan's). I may stop at Wil Wheaton's table again in armor since I know Pere has some more stuff he wants to get Wil to sign. Also, there's a super special awesome thing happening that is planned to happen there that I can't talk about yet other than to say there's a super special awesome thing. Trust me, I will be talking about it later lol. Pere and I went ahead and got a hotel room at the Red Lion since he'll have some more money from some jobs with his dad by then, and it saves us having to go back and forth on the ferry with our costumes every single day. We're also both working as official volunteers for the convention, so that should be fun or interesting at least.

After ECCC we're going back home for a week to visit my parents and go up to St. Louis with them to see the Star Trek Exhibition at the science center (also, I miss the zoo and art museum there so we're definitely visiting those). The break will be a much welcome moment for my brain to destress some like it did while I was there after D*Con.

Things will settle back into a more normal pattern after that with us working where/when we can, organizing donations for the non-profit, and generally killing time until Celebration 6. We keep hoping we'll have some sort of paycheck from the non-profit by then, but nobody really knows. Right now we're waiting on the IRS to give us a tax ID number so we can actually start collection donations. The Board of Directors still has to be sorted completely out, because, while some of us have been placed there are more people needed for other spots. At least the business plan is finished lol. At some point during the summer we hope to be moving back into the carriage house since, in theory, the people there now are moving out. So we should be able to get my stuff out of storage and be able to have people over to visit (in small numbers since it's more like a small one bedroom apartment only with no additional parking space so maybe one additional car can fit here otherwise we have to pick people up ourselves). I'm kind of looking forward to that since I really miss having my stuff not in storage, and frankly really hate having my parent's have to pay for that on top of everything else. (I always sort of have a mini panic attack whenever I go that I'm going to open the storage unit to find all my stuff gone.)

I guess that's most of the "real life" stuff for now. Most days are the same old same old. lol I hope, after ECCC and the April trip, that I'm able to get more costuming stuff out of the way.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-56474142348013856122012-02-21T20:42:00.000-08:002012-02-21T20:42:23.636-08:00Costume progress!I swear I really have been doing costume work. I've also been really bad and kept lacking the motivation to update here, in large part because I haven't gotten as much work done as I really feel like I should have. Though scrolling back through my old posts I realize that I was a LOT further behind in updating here than I thought. My bad guys.

So, for the Early Crusader Beast Master. The large horns have been attached to the helmet, and I'm looking at some different ideas for the smaller horns and bone ridges (because I suck at sculpting). It is more progressed than the picture I have because I was trying to hold off on another picture until I had at least started the bone ridges and small horns.

I've gotten a new patchwork kama done for this one, which involved a small addition to the old kama half plus the new longer kama half. (A loin cloth has also been finished and all I need to do is attach the velcro so I can pull it all on and off as one unit.) It still need some weathering, but is assembled other than that. The new capelet I have no pictures of since I'm trying out the idea of having a fur collar on it but haven't gotten out to Joanns yet to buy the faux fur I need (also, holy crap it's $15 a yard so I need to really figure out just how small of an amount I can get away with).

I've gotten some of the misc. decorative baubles partially finished. The beads are going on more feather/bead danglies either for the belt or for the spear, but I need more shell/bone/wood beads to finish assembling them. I repainted an old resin claw since I'm looking at making that part of some sort of collar decoration. The beads and the claw have all been repainted with nail polish, a trick I learned from some over on the Twi'lek Celebration forums because it's not even remotely something I would have thought to do myself. (The round beads were painted with a deep metallic blue; the long beads were split between a mother of pearl and an opalescent purple/pink; the claw with black though the picture is before it was completely painted.)

I've spent a lot of time searching for boots for this version of the costume. The original version used black suede wedge heeled boots, which a lot of people apparently never noticed were wedge heeled until somebody asked about it. lol So, because I like the bit of extra height it gives me, I was trying to find some brown wedge heels that would work for this version (since I'm not doing the black undersuit like the original had). What I found instead, were these awesome boots at Goodwill:

Yeah, those are pretty much some internal wedge heeled leather boots. They are awesome. I seam ripped about in inch down the back of the calf of the boots so I could actually pull them all the way up (plus have them on over pants) so that part will be hidden with some armor on the back of the leg in addition to the shin armor. Because I didn't want white boots with the costume (especially not white boost with a random red stain on them) I looked into dying vs painting them and was talking into painting them by the guy I spoke with at MacPherson Leather. I have to say, I love this Angelus leather paint. The boots look 10 times better now, and I haven't even gotten around to the whole "armoring them up" part yet. :D

So, that's most of what I've been working on for costumes lately. I've made some half hearted attempts at starting the work on Kora's revamp, but a lot of my costume work is getting put on hold until after ECCC since I'll need to see how much money I'll have left that I can justify spending on costume parts. I've also been working on some scrap fabric card/dice/whatever bags that I'm now selling and have some more ideas for things to sell soon here. More bags will be up in a week or so once I get some more trim and ribbon from Joanns. Stuff for sale is currently only listed on my Bonanza page since I don't have the money to spare for an Etsy store anymore: http://www.bonanza.com/booths/Barghest1031Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-27370546023027470702012-02-21T20:12:00.000-08:002012-02-21T20:12:57.177-08:00Event Report: "The Phantom Menace" 3D PremiereSmall event but worth noting anyway.

Kibiri and I hit up the Episode One 3D premiere at the Pacific Place AMC theater here in Seattle. Peregrinus was with us, but the outfit he was been sewing was just barely not finished in time (seriously, if he had had a couple more hours it would have been done >_<). So guess that just means he'll have to premiere it at ECCC.

Kibiri was there as THE Jodo Kast, and I just went in my force user's smuggler outfit (which will eventually just be a plain old smuggler but I didn't want to rush finishing the chest box or helmet). We had a lot of fun posing for pictures with other patrons and theater staff, plus talking with the other hardcore nerds who were there. Kibiri also had the crowning moment of actually having somebody see his costume and NOT say "Hey, Boba Fett" but instead go "Jodo Kast!?!" lol

Art Gallery Star Wars Exhibit Close and "Hughes the Force" Screening

Sadly, that's the only picture I have of the event. I was in such a rush to get all of my costume together and make it to the ferry on time that I completely spaced and forgot to grab my camera. So we had to make do with an Iphone. lol

Anyway, on Jan. 28 the Ltd. Art Gallery had the closing reception for it's Star Wars exhibit and had a screening of the fan film "Hughes the Force." This was Terentatek Clan's first real troop as a group, which was kinda awesome.

For those who haven't seen the fan film, you need to. I'm normally pretty picky about my fan films, but I loved this one, especially with it's references to other movies. Despite some technical difficulties, I'm pretty sure the screening was a hit with everybody present. I sadly had to dekit and leave shortly after that so I didn't have any time to spend talking with the creators or the actors, but they seemed nice. (My excuse - my hip had been acting up really bad the night before, so much so that I was worried about making it. It managed to last most of the night but was killing me by the time the movie started.)

Yes, I know this is a really short and kind of sparse report, but there's usually less to talk about when it's small things (no matter how much I enjoy them) than when it's conventions.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-6515912088974316322012-01-02T20:42:00.000-08:002012-01-02T20:42:20.836-08:00It's New Year's Eve Revolutionizing Time!Well. Not quite. It's well past New Year's Eve, but I do so love Red vs Blue and have been wanting to quote that for a while now. This seemed like a good chance.

I think my biggest goal this year (aside from my usual job hunting which has just sort of become background noise for me it's been going on for so long) is to drop about 40-50 lbs by the end of the year. Not really looking to tone right now (though that would come in time if I had the money to pursue all the activities I used to do), just drop the fat I've gained. Would really like to lose about half that by Celebration 6 so I can look awesome in a mystery costume (no, not the ISB. . .that's long since no longer my mystery costume). I know it can be done; whether or not I achieve it is something else entirely.

I sort of ended this year researching another costume I've wanted to do for a while. The Flame Handmaiden from Episode One. I was curious to see if I could get it done in time for the 3D premiere. The good news is, I could. The bad news is, I could if I had several hundred dollar to throw away in about a months time. :/ The cheapest option for fabric (that looks good, not the crushed stuff that I've seen some use as a cheap way to do it. . .sorry, but I don't think it looks good at all) is about $17 a yard. And I'd need enough to make that whole gown. Plus two different colors of dye since I have to do the yellow fade then the orange fade. That's not even touching the red sash and undershirt/hood. So, it's still on my list, but is definitely not something that is going to get done before the 3D premiere. (On the bright side, I found some shoes that I think will work at Goodwill already.)

Costume work has been very sporadic. I fully admit I've had a hard time getting motivated as of late; I've been far more motivated to clean and sort my stuff (which I did get accomplished, mostly). Plus SWTOR came out, so I've been trying out all the classes. Have to say, I'm really enjoying it so far. It's enough like WoW that it's easy for me to pick up, but enough not like WoW that I can enjoy it without going "man. . this is like WoW" all the time. There are definitely some glitches still, though I'm lucky that all I've encountered are some cinematic glitches. I also keep meaning to get on my alts on other servers and level them for the guilds there, but without fail each time I get ready to get on those servers are either full or heavy. (This internet is tricky enough that I don't trust it on "heavy" servers.)

So, that's pretty much it for the end of the year. I promise I'll try better to keep things updated as we go into the new year.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-68370134959405891872011-12-21T01:27:00.000-08:002011-12-21T01:27:53.471-08:00Event Report: Ltd. Art Gallery, Star Wars Exhibit Opening (12/8/2011)The Ltd. Art Gallery over in Seattle has a Star Wars art show going until early 2012 (I can't recall the exact date they said so I don't want to misquote), and they sent a request to Garrison Titan to have people show up for it. I, having just spent D*Con wondering why there weren't many art galleries with pop/nerd art, jumped at the chance. And I am so glad I did. The owners are awesome, it was a really fun event (despite the couple of people that almost gave me "drunk late night D*Con" flashbacks lol), and there is so much there I wish I had the money to buy. Really, I think everybody needs to check them out and buy stuff. Because everybody needs more Star Wars art.

Myself, Kibiri Foxx, and Kraysh showed up in our mando gear, and three other 501st people showed up in their kits (I do know their names, but I don't know how they feel about even their forum names being posted in my blog. . .Kibiri and Kraysh can at least find me and swat me upside the head if they want me to remove their names lol).

We had a couple people taking pics, but here are some of the ones I like that Pere took (since he used my camera and I don't like reposting other people's pictures without being able to link back to them. . .and I've honestly not got those links handy).
First troop I'd done since D*Con, and I already had the excuse of going down to visit my brother. *chuckle* 'Sides I figured it'd be fun to go a convention with him since he's had to miss out on a lot due to his helicopter training (btw, he just got CFI certified recently :D ).

It was, in a word, great. I didn't stay kitted up for very long, but that was partially because I realized I couldn't even kneel down to dig through some of the Star Wars action figure boxes several of the vendors had out. XD Seron Clan of the Mandalorian Mercs officially inducted Andy Mangels as an honorary member of the Mandalorian Mercs. I'm glad to have met him, especially as "Twin Engines of Destruction" is probably the only comic that has stuck with me since I was a little kid. (I, um, do feel kind of bad admitting that it initially stuck with me because I saw the cover up on the wall of my local comic shop and it just stuck with me so much that I hunted for that comic cover until I finally found a copy in the back issues section of the same store many, many years later. . .2008 or 2009 actually.)

Pere managed to score a signed trading card of the character based of Andy Mangels thanks to his obsessive encyclopedia mind of Star Wars knowledge. lol Don't have a picture of that, but it was amusing to watch him and the others standing around wracking their brains trying to remember the character in order to get the card.

Anyway, I sadly didn't have my brother's steampunk jetpack done in time (the foam didn't set up at all at first. . it mostly collapsed and didn't get hard until days later so we've got to put some more in before we can finish it). We still had a lot of fun; I picked up a new pin for my SRS sash, a new pin for me in general, and found the K-Mart exclusive Jodo Kast figure for Pere. Afterwards we headed over to Voodoo Donuts since, while I've had donuts from there I'd never been, and I've been telling Pere we needed to take him since, well, pretty much since I moved to this coast. lol (Needless to say, he's now kind of hooked on them.)

So, now that the typey typey is over with, here are some of my favorite pics that Pere took:

Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-18983674618207515732011-10-31T00:23:00.000-07:002011-10-31T00:23:56.506-07:00Costume updates (with pictures ^_^)I said I'd do it, so I am. lol

Sith (Armored, TOR era)

Found the inspiration for my soft goods on a picture secret over on LJSecret (like PostSecrets but on LiveJournal). So ignore the blotted out part, that's just from me marking out the secret.

Obviously it won't be as ruffly. (Which is kind of sad because I think that outfit is damn cute.) And I'm not sure just how close I'll be sticking to it, but it's a nice base to work from. I'll be adding a hood which I'm borrowing the style of from Darth Revan. (When I'm wearing the masked version I'll do like Revan's do and have the balaclava on; otherwise it'll just be the hood and probably some make-up and contacts.)

For the armor I'm currently modifying one of the Hasbro Grievous masks and some armor from one of the Narnia costumes. Don't ask me which one, I honestly don't know. I just found the shoulder armor at Goodwill for $1 each. Originally I thought I was going to have to fill in all the filigree deco on the shoulders, but after looking at it and grabbing a screwdriver to pry at things, I discovered the filigree was actually just some rubbery stuff they glued on. So off it came. Have a gem I'm putting in the big gap on the shoulder with the neck guard. I'll also be using the epoxy putty to sclupt some more deco on. The Grievous mask is getting shortened (so it actually fits), having the mouth and ear areas redone (to a degree), and possibly having some changes to the eyes (beyond just a new visor).

I'm still unsure about the rest of the armor, but I'm pretty confident it will work itself out in time.

Kora - Winter Kit

I admit I have no new work done on this. lol Just wanted to say that I'm changing the helmet I'm using to my old red helmet. It needs some serious re-working, but I think it'll do.

Tiika Ruslin - Early Crusader Beast Master Mando

Pulled all my soft goods that I still had out of storage from the first version of this outfit. I'm considering redoing the cape in complete leather rather than leather mixed with faux suede fabric (I don't like the underside of the fabric showing and revealing that it's fabric). Got a new belt that I'm going to attempt to dye darker and see how it goes but not holding my breath. Lucked out and found the horns that I needed (same as the last helmet) at Party City for about $8 so I went ahead and got them so I don't have to worry about factoring shipping. Also think I've decided to build a spear first, rather than the standard axe, so I'm using the staff base from the old kit as the spear haft. Need to figure out something for the spearhead itself.

Misc Steampunk

Using one of my old clock gear pins to make my mom a gear pin for Christmas. Probably just going to add a gem to it and call it done since I haven't got much to get fancy with. (The danger of adding feathers it that our cats will then view it as a fun play toy that they must have. lol) The smaller "top" gears on the larger plastic one are actually some sort of locking nut I believe (I have honestly completely blanked on the actual name but you can find them at Ace and other hardware stores).

And the project I'd like to get done before November 12th: a steampunk jet pack for my brother. He's doing a steampunk aviator, but we're so low on funds that getting him a decent jacket has been a serious hunt. We've come very close on a couple at Goodwill, but the size was usually off. And I definitely couldn't afford the $50 for a vintage WWII aviator jacket at Closet Transfer (which is a shame because that would have been damn awesome). Since I wanted him to have something steampunky in his closet though, I decided I was going to whip up a jet pack his pilot could wear when he doesn't have the jacket on. (Admittedly he probably needs more period shoes/shirt/pants, but that can be cheated for a quick throw together convention costume. At least he has the right hat though sadly we're still missing goggles.)

There are some of the things getting used to, hopefully, whip this project up. Two smaller Sprite bottles, one larger two liter bottle, two faucet caps (don't ask why I had those in my prop box 'cause I honestly don't know), some plastic cap I cut off of something, a renuzit air freshener cone (we're using two but one is in the garage), and the grills I cut off of the Grievous mask. Other doodads will probably be added once I have a chance to go through Pere's greebly boxes. We're making the strapping out of some scrap leather, though I'm still not sure if I have any buckles that will work. Going to reinforce the bottles with some expanding foam, too, so we won't have to worry (as much) about them getting crushed.

So, yes. That's a large chunk of what I'm currently working on. Fingers crossed there will be more pics of at least some of it soon. Tonight or tomorrow I'm taking pics for my costume entry to the Rebelscum costume contest (yes, I know I'm kind of pushing it waiting this long), and tomorrow after we help Pere's dad and stepmom move we're taking the Femprotector into Winslow to see what the Downtown Trick or Treat is like and the Harbor Square Halloween Party.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-1855108181790856292011-10-29T14:43:00.000-07:002011-10-29T14:43:05.358-07:00Well so much for keeping to one post a week lolYeah. Sometimes I fail like that. I've been both busy and fighting a horrible bought of depression though, so it's been a struggle to get motivated to do anything. Also, I kept putting off another post until I actually had pictures. Which I do have some of. But because I've got other stuff I need to go do today, this is pretty much just going to be a brief text update, and I'll do a more detailed post with pictures either late tonight or tomorrow.

I should also mention, for those who somehow missed me going on about it on my Facebook, we got a new kitten. He is adorabibble. ^_^ XD We named him Bowie. (Partially after Jim Bowie and partially after David Bowie which is sort of meta given that David Bowie took the last name Bowie from Jim Bowie.)

Got some shoulder armor for my Sith from Goodwill (hell yeah, $1 each ^_^). Found a picture inspiration for the soft goods (though mine will deviate, it's just a nice starting point). My packages from home arrived so I have my lightsabers out here now, too.

Going to wash the old purple paint off my lekku and re-stuff them. Then I want to start figuring out the headband if nothing else. Have my eye on some paints that I want, but, like all the fabric and misc goods for the Jedi, I can't buy until I have the money to spare.

Pere found a Darth Vader Hasbro helmet at Goodwill. He's fixing up the face portion to be accurate and using the helmet part for his custom Sith. I've snagged the chest box to use for my smuggler. May also use the gloves I found for the smuggler rather than the Sith like I've been saying.

Misc. props I've got to work on:
- Whips for the Beast Master Early Crusader mando. Cut apart my cat o' nine tails and am moving some of those strands into some perfect hilts I found at Goodwill back in TN. Should be a pretty quick prop to make, just need to clear an area where I can use the dremel without getting plastic dust all over everything.
- Fallout Raider bandoleer. Snagged my brother's NERF ammo belt from home (not the one with the orange holders for darts, the hard case one that came with the Vulcan for feeding the darts in). Going to get rid of the NERF markings and use it for my Fallout costume.
- Steampunk Jetpack. Doing this up for my brother's steampunk pilot outfit. Still need to find what I'm going to use for the strapping system, which was something I forgot to look for at Goodwill last night. D'oh.
- Steampunk gear pin. Just something small I'm making for my mom. Already had a gear pin made, but I took the original decoration off after Pere's mom's cat found it and assumed it was a toy for her lol. So I'm doing something different and wrapping it up as a Christmas present.

So, I've got a bit of stuff to work on. And I'm off for now, here's to another blog update soon.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-45690740280658929502011-09-11T23:09:00.000-07:002011-09-11T23:09:05.446-07:00To D*Con and beyond!Yep, I'm a bad person who has waited this long to update after the convention. *heh* In truth I had been putting it off 'til we were back in WA, but, well. . .I shall explain.

First, look, I have short hair now! :D

Anyway the day we were supposed to leave for D*Con, Pere informed me we'd been bumped from our flight. AND, since Delta apparently has no concept of good customer service, our only choices from them were either tickets for a flight IN TWO WEEKS or a refund. . .which would also take several weeks. It's a good thing I wasn't on the phone; I would have been curious if they'd also have been willing to refund us for all the other things purchased for the trip that could only be used then. Pere opted for the refund which left us with two choices: we buy a ticket for another flight out on late Thursday (which would have cost us $400 more than our original tickets) or we book a flight out on Friday (which cost us $200 more). That all meant that we arrived pretty late to the Merc's dinner, but at least we got to meet Tem Morrison (hey, now I can say I've had dinner with both Boba and Jango).

Anyway, it was a pretty fun con, all the rushing around like chickens with our heads cut off aside. Huge thanks to Atin and MPsy for hanging out with us while we scarfed down some dinner, and it was a blast wandering around with MPsy. After the parade and Merc's group pic Saturday I went with the group to present the Honorary Membership for the Mercs to Tem Morrison. That was also pretty sweet (there are pics and video. . .not sure where the video is but I have some pics on my Facebook page). Spent the Aquarium night in the Sith Scout then spent most of Sunday (armored up for some late night photos) and all Monday in normal clothes because damn those boots killed my feet even with insoles. >_< Need to get some new ones, badly. Broke down and bought an Ultrasabers saber at the con, too, since they had a convention discount (currently it has the short violet blade but I'll be waiting from an email from them for the long blade shipping estimate which I'll be getting in pink. . .deal :P ).
As a brief info, my laptop died the same day we were originally supposed to leave for D*Con. Apparently the motherboard finally fried. :( At least all my old info is safe, but I can't access it until I have something with the right kind of port to plug my harddrive into. Right now I'm using a laptop Pere's dad gave us to work on. So. Yeah. We also had a bit of a miscommunication in who was paying for us to drive back out, so we're just staying here in TN with my parents for another week then flying back out. The nice thing about Southwest though is that they allow you two checked bags for free, so I'm still able to bring back my lekku and my brother's armor to work on. ^-^ (My armor and helmet will still be shipped back out to me, because there is no way I'm risking them breaking in flight.)

Costume wise, I'm really looking forward to upgrading the FemProtector. And losing weight but that's another issue. lol Going to start work on my Sith armor and the twi'lek Jedi soon, hopefully going to finish up my smuggler and get started on a mostly soft goods version of my Early Crusader armor, too (since I don't want to rush all the armor for it I'm just going to make a sort of barbarian-esque soft goods outfit to go with the helmet and axe. . .need a wig for that character, too). Aiming to get all that mess done for C6 and D*Con next year (assuming things work out and we can go to both). Pere is hoping to get our 501st outfits done for Emerald City Con, but I'm not too worried it they aren't.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-80876831263157837962011-08-26T11:06:00.000-07:002011-08-26T11:06:31.400-07:005 days 'til I leave for D*ConSorry to those who do actually regularly read my blog for not updating in some time. These past couple weeks I was first rushing to get the FemProtector to a point where I could submit it to the Mercs (spoiler - it's now my second approved kit) and finishing up the Sith Scout so it could be submitted to The Dark Empire (spoiler - I'm now the 3rd approved SRS). Those are things I was mostly done with a week ago, and more on them later (including two more blog posts dedicated to each separate costume plus a full stomach wrap quasi-tutorial I've been meaning to type up).

This week though I really haven't been visible much online. I've been working as a sub-contractor under Pere's mom to help her get a house packed/cleaned/moved for one of her clients, and the days have been almost 10-12 hours long. Not going to lie, the money is great for such simple work. lol I apparently missed my calling as a day laborer/mover/cleaner. It's sad I've been without that much money for so long I even "splurged" and bought a second $8 bra from Walmart just so I can have two that actually aren't falling apart. Definitely hitting Goodwill before D*Con to get some pants that aren't ripped and dying, too. Yeah. . .I hate being poor. (Not the shopping at Goodwill part; I'd be doing that no matter how much money I had because fuck yeah Goodwill. Just hate that I have to consider things like more than one bra and pants that aren't ripped as "splurges".) Pere and I have also been working to set up a non-profit for a friend of his dad. Said friend owns and runs a chili pepper business that we might also do some minor work for, but because he's busy with that he needs other people to get the non-profit going. The goal of the non-profit is to use kinetic sculptures (look 'em up, they're pretty cool) to, in a nutshell, show kids what you can do with all that stuff you learn and school and that growing up doesn't mean you have to stop having fun. Currently my title is Assistant Communications Director which means I'll bet the one handling the website, meetings/trips to schools, and news releases. Seriously, we have a lot of hopes for this thing, and I think it's going to be awesome. As a serious plus, both Pere and I can do our jobs for the group from anywhere that we have a phone and internet for a laptop which means once it gets going we're hoping to be able to travel around the country to hit different conventions (plus all the sites across the country/world I want to eventually see). It's a lofty goal, but fingers are crossed that it works out for us. :)

Now then, in costuming news. As I said earlier, both my FemProtector and Sith Scout are now official. Sadly my mystery outfit will not be done in time. We're just too wiped out from work and racing to finish costumes (and we still wanted to try to fix some things up differently on the Protector soft goods before D*Con). Even more sadly Pere is definitely not going to have anything for D*Con. :( But at least he has made a lot of progress on his mando, he just didn't want to rush the painting and won't have the time/money to devote to getting and making the soft goods. At some point soon I'll try to get that stomach wrap tutorial up, but I don't think I'll have the posts devoted to each costume up until after the convention since I'm making some changes and will have new pics. Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-24567965529599734112011-07-25T02:34:00.000-07:002011-07-25T02:34:31.655-07:00I hate my buttSeriously, right now I hate it so much it's not even funny. Maybe I should extend it to hating my hips in general. *snort* I've been trying to get the corset wraps finished up and kept running into problems. I got the iron and starch out and put the horizontal pleats into it to mimic the look of an actual wrap. Took a while, felt really proud of myself when I finished. They looked so pretty. ^-^

Then I sat down and started working on getting things bunched right to pull it all on and have the wraps stay in place. Got all the stuff pinned in place, pulled it on. . .and realized that it was so not going to work because my rear is so much larger than my waist. *sigh* The difference in fabric lengths was causing it to bunch horribly. I always make these sort of simple mistakes. *chuckle* So it was back to the drawing board with Pere to try to figure out how I could fix it. After going for a walk, I approached it from a new angle that seems to be working. I've currently got all the pleats cut into individual strips which we've been pinning in place while I wear the "corset" base. Though I did realize just how badly I need to lose weight. That's the only time I've ever gotten light headed and sick from wearing a corset for that little amount of time. >_< So we've got one final strand to finish up because I had to pull it off before I dropped, but once we get that strip pinned into place it's tedious sewing time as I need to stitch the ends down to the other half of the corset, stitch them together to make the part with the hook and eyes that will close the wrap over the zipper, and do some light stitching at the top and bottom to keep those wraps in place with minimal adjustment every time I pull it on and off.

Also working on figuring out a solution for my helmet visor. The clear polycarbonate that Pere had lying around ended up messing up (once again, my own fault. . .it was a bit too hot when I put it in the helmet to form it and it apparently melted some of the plastic from the nubs of the old visor onto it). *sigh* So, trying to figure that whole mess out with my limited budget before D*con.

On a slightly unrelated note, I sort of forgot that it was coming up on my birthday. :( And it looks like all my birthday money plus probably some of what I make weeding the yard here will be going towards my new hair cut and getting it dyed before D*con. Yeah, the dye isn't necessary, but a hair cut is, and it's sort of my habit to have it dyed red before conventions and with this hair cut I'm looking at I think the color will be better than my natural color. Fingers crossed that works out for me. (Also, fingers crossed a possible job comes about . . .I'll hopefully know after Tuesday.)Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-39266115924421395732011-07-18T00:31:00.000-07:002011-07-18T00:31:10.995-07:00Wow. Go me for failing lolSo it's been over a week since I remembered to post. 0_0 Oops. My bad. Been sort of scatter brained lately, partially worrying about money, partially focusing on finishing stuff, and partially really trying not to get my hopes up about a very nice possible job opportunity. So fingers crossed for me on that at least?

Fourth of July was fun. I got a pretty bad sun burn though since, silly me, I didn't think to put any sunblock on my face. I'm used to spending my Fourths in a park with trees and shade, not standing for a good thirty minutes or so in the middle of the sun to watch the parade. XD But it's mostly healed up by now, and I don't feel so incredibly sick anymore. It was pretty cool watching the fireworks from across the sound at Fay Bainbridge park. We could see fireworks going off all up and down the coast which is a pretty impressive thing to see. Haven't really had a whole lot of stuff besides that going on in real life though we went over to Seattle on a whim a couple of days ago since I had a bit of spare money, so walking around there is always fun. Plus, exercise. That is always good. *chuckle*

But on to the costume stuff, which I expect most people are here for anyway.

Pretty much all of the armor work on the FemProtector is finished. I've still got to assemble and paint the knees, but I'm waiting on Pere to get the forming blocks finished so we can properly form the Fett style knees (I admit I'm impatient enough that I'm almost tempted to see how well I can form knees off of my own knees but I don't want to waste any of the sintra lol). Helmet still needs the visor installed, but I'm being lazy and haven't yet. So, behold all the armor minus the knees:

So, there's all that. ^-^ I've also slowly begun the process of working on my soft goods. The vest is unfortunately going to have to wait for Pere to sit down and draft the pattern for me. I'm a horrible tailor and couldn't tune something to fit me remotely as well as he can. So he gets to do all that fun work. XD Probably also going to have him do the pattern for my kama since, while I could manage the main body of it, there's a wibbly bit that I need to curve back then forward again. And I don't think I could manage to have it come out right without him doing up the pattern for it. I have, however, started work on my stomach wraps. Perhaps faux wraps is really a better term but whatever. Found a cheapo quasi-corset shirt/top/bustier thing at Goodwill that I've modified to work as the base for the wraps. I've gotten one side of the blue wrap fabric sewn on, and I even had the top stitched down. . . until I realized I'd made a stupid mistake and needed to iron the pleats for the wrap look in first as I'm having to gather the blue fabric to accommodate the corset base stretching when it's put on (damn you stretchy fabrics!) and the fabric just would not lay in the correct pleats that way. *sigh* So I had to seam rip about an hours worth of sewing. It's not seam ripping that I hate; it's having to sew everything back afterward. Hoping in another couple days I'll be able to set the ironing board back up and get that mess sorted though so I can finish up the stomach wrap.Korahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02786213581981726862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411215316352166427.post-57848557701767350682011-07-03T20:14:00.000-07:002011-07-03T20:14:33.223-07:00Random stuff + costume progressI'll get the costume progress stuff out of the way first since I've honestly know idea how many people who read this blog actually care that much about the non-costume stuff. ('Course I don't really know how many care about even that sooo *chuckle*.) No pics of my progress this week, in large part because I just wasn't thinking and haven't taken any yet. Helmet has the first two coats of the green on it, though I'm going to need to put on at least two, maybe three more. Boob plates and chest diamond are finished. Need to get yet another can of green paint so I can finish up the helmet and paint the collar plates. The gauntlets have the base silver coat on them; I decided to go ahead and paint them the same blue as the visor trim, in large part because I'm going to need all of the next green can I get to finish up the helmet and collar plates. Pere's getting the knee forming block put together so we can make the Fett knees, which are the only hard parts left for the kit that I need to make. Pere's been focusing on his hard parts so we haven't made any headway on soft goods currently, although I'm hoping we start those soon.

Now then, for the random stuff. Not really nerd related, per say, just stuff I felt like talking about because, well, it's my life and it's not common that I get to do fun things lately so there :P ;)

Saturday was the annual rummage sale here on the island. We ended up parking a little over 1/4 a mile away and just walking there since I HATE parallel parking with a passion (and, truthfully, even if I had parallel parked somewhere, it probably would not have been that much closer lol). On the bright side, yay exercise plus we found a yellow raspberry bush on the walk over. ^-^ The sale itself was/is huge. They use one of the elementary schools here to hold it in. Furniture and some camping/sporting things are all out in one of the parking lots; cars (yes, cars) and hardware/automotive is in the other. I'm pretty sure it was the gym that held the books/toys/office supplies, and the bulk clothes/accessories were all outside under a shelter built off of the gym portion (yeah, that's a crappy description but I really can't think of any other way to describe it). Found one of the Dresden File books I needed and tossed that in with Pere's bags of books. Also found a pretty copper pendant of some sort ($2), a blue wool and mohair scarf ($1), a new mouse for my laptop ($5), and a pretty little purse made in Ecuador ($1). I was quite happy with my things, though I seriously wish we'd had more time to dig through all the clothes (we got there about 11:40 and didn't make it to the clothes section until about 1:30. . .the sale ends pretty much exactly at 2).

Afterward we were going to head out to Silverdale to run some errands, but we were hungry so we decided on trying a pizza place up in Suquamish. For the record, Bella Luna is awesome. Really. We got the Full Moon pizza, which is chicken, ricotta, and mushrooms on a roasted garlic base. <3 It's one of those places that reminds me why I love it out here so much. And even if my ass becomes even more broke, creditors start hunting for me, and all that jazz. . .I still don't think I could move. It was so incredibly nice to be able to sit somewhere, nom some delicious pizza and watch sailboats and cruise ships out in the Puget Sound. It was a really clear day, too, so we could see the Cascades in the distance in one direction and Mt. Rainier in the distance in the other. After lunch we walked on the beach area there for a bit. I found a couple more shells, some granite pebbles, and Pere found two pieces of beach glass for me. I don't have pics of the stuff I found yet (one of those things I need to remember to do), but it was fun. Fourth of July "fair" is tomorrow, so looking forward to that. ^-^ In the mean time, enjoy the pictures from Suquamish.
